The Safest Place for Your Gymnast

With a simple tumbling mat, you can create a safe space for your young tumbler or future Olympian to practice their craft at home. Tumbling mats are the foundation for all gymnastics because they protect joints and can defend against falls. They’re affordable, easy to use and store, and can last all throughout your tumbler’s gymnastics career.

Ideal for Beginner Gymnasts

Our mats and skill trainers  come in different thicknesses, lengths, and widths so you can choose the one that fits your child at any stage and will accommodate growth and increased skills. For the littlest tumblers, the tumbling mat will be a safe place to practice motor control and balance. And there’s no better place to develop those skills than on a soft, supportive surface.

Avoid cringing every time your little guy wants to show you his forward roll on the hard kitchen floor, with our padded tumbling mats that take worrying out of the equation. It provides padding so when the fall happens, your child can get right back up. But it provides firm support, too, so there are fewer of those falls.

Mats that Grow with Your Experience

For older and more experienced gymnasts, the larger crash pads offer a safe space to practice bolder moves and skills right at home. Confidence levels as well as skill levels improve vastly when there is opportunity to extend practice time at home. Getting instruction a couple of times a week from a thoroughly vetted gymnastics coach is of absolute importance, but when your child has the opportunity to keep practicing even when she’s not at the gym, she will continue to progress even between classes.

While no athletic endeavor is without risk, you can mitigate some associated with tumbling and gymnastics with the purchase of a professional-quality tumbling mat for your child to use at home. Fold it up and tuck it away when it’s not in use and restore your family room back to normal.

3 Tests to Find the Best Foam Mats for Kids

When you’re looking for foam mats that are ideal for your kids, you’ll have certain questions as you shop. Will this mat protect my kids from bumps and bruises? My kids spill everything… are these mats easy to clean? I’m nervous that my baby will try to put this in her mouth; how do I know these mats are safe and non-toxic?

As you can imagine, we get all these questions and more every day and want to list a few things our customers should look for when discerning if a mat is up to quality standards.

Note: All interlocking EVA foam mats are intended for ages 3 and up. This is due to a potential choking hazard posed by the interlocking tabs should they be torn or bitten off from the mats.

  1. The “Bonk” Test
In most cases, the primary reason parents shop for foam mats is to protect children from falling on hard surfaces. Caretakers want peace of mind knowing that if a child takes a spill during playtime, they’re going to be able to get right back up again without any tears. The key in this instance is the thickness of the mat.

Of course, there are no products that can keep us 100% safe from every fall, but in order to protect from minor bumps and bruises, you need a mat that is at least 3/8″ inch (10mm) thick. Mats that are thinner, such as yoga mats, are not designed for shock absorption, but rather for traction and mild padding. If your baby tips over sideways from a seated position on a 1/8″ thick yoga mat, there’s still going to be a bonk and some tears. EVA foam mats which are 3/8″ or thicker provide enough shock absorption to protect your little ones from the frequent falls that come with the territory of learning to crawl or walk.

  1. The Mess Test
Oftentimes when people think of foam, they envision squishy blocks of padding, that quickly absorb liquid spills and are difficult to keep clean. Thankfully, because EVA foam is extremely high-density, cleaning up everyday household spills is a breeze. We’ve yet to come across a spill which couldn’t be quickly wiped up with a paper towel or dissolved with a mild solution of soap and water. Even if your mats should somehow become thoroughly soaked, most of the liquid will simply wick away. The mats can then air-dry either outdoors in the sunlight, or indoors with the help of a fan.
  2. The Safety Test
Foam mats come in a variety of sizes, colors and thicknesses, but nothing is more important than making sure your family is not exposed to any dangerous or harmful materials. When shopping for mats, take the time to check the material’s safety data to ensure that the mats are BPA-free, Lead-free and completely non-toxic.You may even wish to ask about potential allergens like Latex in case anyone in your family has a sensitivity. All of We Sell Mats’ EVA foam has undergone independent third-party testing to prove that our mats are free of any dangerous materials and completely safe for household use.

As long as the mats you’re considering to purchase pass these three tests, you can feel confident you’re making a good choice for your home and family. Check out our line of EVA foam mats for stylish and cost-effective flooring for playrooms, daycares, classrooms and beyond.

Create a Custom Sensory Room

October is National Sensory Awareness Month which rallies caring parents, educators, therapists and caregivers to spread awareness of sensory processing and how it affects children and adults every single day.

A huge part of treating individuals with these issues revolves around designing a safe and engaging sensory room to help them work through troubling stimuli.

Progress of Sensory Rooms

Sensory rooms or “Multi-Sensory Rooms” were invented by Dutch therapists in the 1970s to make areas that were forgiving and safe in the early days of sensory disorder research. After 40 years of medical breakthroughs, sensory rooms are still the ideal way to help those with sensory challenges. Sensory rooms are increasingly popular as they help the current 1 in 59 people that are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder which includes extreme cases of ADHD.

The Benefits of a Sensory Room

The designs of sensory rooms vary greatly, as no two people that benefit from them are the same. Some sensory rooms help develop coping skills when met with a negative sensation such as a loud noise. Others are designed to be a safe place to go in times of distress where they can work through their emotions and reactions.

Whatever the use of the sensory room may be, it is important that it is a welcoming and forgiving place for trauma victims and those with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Sensory Processing Disorder.

Designing a Sensory Room

A sensory room is only as helpful as its contents, and there are endless products that can help. It is important to make the room comfortable while also stimulating with as many senses as possible. White noise machines and aromatherapy diffusers are a great way to calm down through sound and smell, while soft chairs, foam flooring, and crash pads make the room comforting and safe.

It is important to give those with sensory challenges room to lie down or sit in a combination of natural and stimulating positions. We Sell Mats is the perfect place to purchase soft, forgiving surfaces in countless shapes and textures. Gymnastics pads are a great place to jump, sit and lie down while EVA foam tiles feature a range of interesting textures that are easy to install in creative places such as walls or the tops of tables.

At the end of the day, the perfect sensory room is the one that is tailored for the person it is treating. This National Sensory Awareness Month, We Sell Mats is proud to distribute products that put sensory rooms together and to recognize the parents/professionals that craft places that can make those with sensory challenges lives’ easier.

3 Uses for Foam Flooring in Schools

There are a lot of different rooms and areas within a school. Each room may serve a different need for students or staff, so rooms are often designed differently. One major decision schools have to make is choosing which flooring is going to go in each room. One common type of flooring used in schools is foam flooring, so this article is going to look at three different areas within a school foam flooring can be useful in.

In the Classroom

Classroom designs may vary depending on the age of students that will be in the classroom. In classrooms for younger students, foam floor mats or foam carpet tiles can be extremely beneficial. Younger students tend to sit or play on the floor frequently, and because of this, they need a soft, cushioned floor in the classroom. Foam flooring offers the softness needed and is easy to install and move around if needed. Flooring in classrooms for younger students should be easy to clean as well, and foam flooring certainly is.

In the Gym

Gyms, dance studios, and other recreational areas need flooring that is soft — because kids playing on the floor in gyms, foam flooring can be a great option. It’s soft enough so that if kids fall, they will have a cushioned surface to land on. This is especially important for activities like gymnastics or other types of tumbling. Foam carpet tiles can be assembled for certain activities and then easily taken down and put away if it is not needed.

In the Library

A school library is a place where students can go to work on homework, research, and even read leisurely. Because libraries are a place for concentration, it needs to be quiet. Fortunately, foam flooring is quiet when being walked on, unlike floorings like wood or laminate. Furthermore, foam floor tiles are comfortable enough for students to sit on if they are looking to read on the floor. Overall, foam flooring is perfect for any library or study area.

Flooring is as important as desks and other elements in schools. With floor covering sales growing by around 4.8% in 2017 alone, more and more schools and other facilities are exploring floor tile options. Foam flooring can be beneficial in numerous areas within a school, for both students and staff.

Gymnastics Can Be Safe At Home

When she comes home from tumbling practice and wants to keep practicing (good!), a thickly padded tumbling mat is just what she needs to do it safely. That’s why our tumbling mats are made to the same standards as those she uses at the studio, and why they’re available to you to use at home. Continue reading “Gymnastics Can Be Safe At Home”
