Home gyms can be one of the most personal spaces in your house. Think about it: you choose the location, decide exactly what your routine needs, and make the space inviting enough to keep you coming back. It has purpose: to keep you active and healthy.
One of the most important decisions you can make about your home gym is the type of flooring to use. If the only space you have available is 10 square feet of carpet at the end of your bed, you’re not going to get a very good workout or necessarily a safe one, either. If you start with EVA foam mats though, you’ll have a shock-absorbing, floor exercise-friendly, and resilient foundation on which to build your gym.
Depending on your fitness routine and exercise preferences, the type of flooring you choose for your home gym will be different, but we have something for everyone! Are you a Pilates or Yoga person? You could create a soft floor space with some 1/2″ or even 3/4″ floor mats. If you like to feel a little more ground beneath you, our 3/8″ mats come in different colors or even a wood grain finish, like the one in the picture (from a happy customer). For high-impact workouts, the 3/8″ mats are great, and with the addition of a little carpet tape on the underside to prevent any slipping, you’ll have enough protection for your joints to keep you going strong. If your workout incorporates some martial arts, we even have mats with a tatami finish to provide extra grip for hands and feet.
Heavy weights and machines can leave indentations in the floor mats of your home gym, but this is to be expected. The mats protect not only you and your joints, but the floor you’re working on, too! The owner of the beautiful basement home gym in the picture used mats from the weight machine and spinning bike manufacturers under his machines, but on top of our Bamboo Forest Floor for a warm, personal feel.
